“Filling Empty Shells” (E)
Yesterday, I officially began the sermon series “Focus on the Family: Issues, Identity, and Intentionality” by urging men to turn from and move past being enslaved to pornography. You can watch or listen to the message here.
The outline I gave used the acrostic S-H-E-L-L. My goal was to help men fill the ‘empty shells’ addiction to
pornography causes. Using Psalm 51 I challenged men to:
S – Self-Declare Your Problem.
H – Hand Everything Over to Christ.
E – Express Expressly Your Offense.
L – Liberation comes through Collaboration.
L – Listen to the Life Giving Spirit.
Two books I quoted from were:
Tempted and Tried: Temptation and the Triumph of Christ by Russell Moore
and
Wired for Intimacy: How Pornography Hijacks the Male Brain by William Struthers
The quote I gave from Randy Stinson was from a talk he gave at ‘Connecting Church and Home Conference’ here.
I also recommended Time for the Talk: Leading Your Son into True Manhood by Steve Zollos
In case your interested, the ESPN video I began the sermon with is here.
Today at his blog, Tim Challies just so happened to list a massive index of resources promoting and encouraging healthy sexuality. Get the list here.
