If You Want to Understand the Bible . . .
. . . then run, don’t walk, to get a copy of this book:
There are a lot of great resources out there to help believers understand the Bible better. But, in my opinion, this is by far one of THE best. Why? Because it is easy enough for a child to understand (it is a children’s story book Bible!) and it clearly communicates to all ages the point of the entire Bible.
The subtitle says it all: “Every Story Whispers His Name.” It’s why I love this book so much. The author, Sally Lloyd-Jones, does a masterful job of taking the famous stories of the Bible and the big themes of God’s Word and directs the reader to how it connects to the Person and Work of the Lord Jesus.
Consider this quote from the first chapter:
“Now, some people think the Bible is a book of rules, telling you what you should and shouldn’t do. The Bible certainly does have some rules in it. They show you how life works best. But the Bible isn’t mainly about you and what you should be doing. It’s about God and what He has done.
“Other people think the Bible is a book of heroes, showing you people you should copy. The Bible does have some heroes in it, but (as you’ll soon find out) most of the people in the Bible aren’t heroes at all. They make some big mistakes (sometimes on purpose). They get afraid and run away. At times they are downright mean.
“No, the Bible isn’t a book of rules, or a book of heroes. The Bible is most of all a Story. It’s an adventure story about a young Hero who comes from a far country to win back His lost treasure. It’s a love story about a brave Prince who leaves His palace, His throne – everything – to rescue the one He loves. It’s like the most wonderful of fairy tales that has come true in real life!”
If you are a parent who wants your child to better understand the Bible, get a copy of The Jesus Storybook Bible.
If you are an adult who wants to better comprehend the point of Scripture, go get a copy.
If you are any body in between and want to be a better student of God’s Word, I highly recommend The Jesus Storybook Bible.
No matter what age you are – I can assure you: You will be glad you read it.
